Abstract
Mechanical alloying and hot-consolidation of Al75-xTi25Crx (x=6,8,10,12,14) have been investigated to see the the alloying effect of Cr on the phase changes and the properties of Al3Ti. Mechanical alloying resulted in the formation of a metastable f.c.c. phase. The phase was transformed into Ll2 and second phases during hot-consolidations and subsequent annealing. For the alloy with the composition of x=6 (Al69Ti25Cr6), the DO22 phase coexisted with these phases. Such alloy exhibited higher strength but lower ductility than the other alloys exempt DO22 structure. Room temperature ductility was markedly improved by subsequent annealing of hot-pressed samples. A good combination of mechanical strength and ductility was observed for the alloys with the composition of x=8−14 (Al75-xTi25Crx).
