Local modes of interstitial atoms in transition metals

Local modes of the C, N, O and H interstitial atoms were measured in many transition metal solid solutions by inelastic neutron scattering. The metal-interstitial force constants were estimated from the experimental data and are graphically presented as functions of metal-interstitial distances. A correlation of these functions with the data, predicted by the embedded atom theory, is revealed and discussed.
