Abstract :
The directional microstructure which develops in about 50% of the grains in rolled copper—the ‘high wall density’ (HWD) structure, may be used as an indicator for the importance of the interaction between specific grains with their specific crystallographic orientations. For instance it is found that the grains which develop the HWD structure are not selected on the basis of their crystallographic orientation. Also it was observed that the geometrical orientation of the dislocation walls may deviate very significantly from the ‘ideal’ orientation. Both observations demonstrate a strong grain-to-grain interaction.
