  • Abstract
In this work, simple mathematical relations between the plastic strain rate, the flow stress and the temperature for steady state deformation of aluminium alloys are proposed. The expressions are based on the corresponding formula for pure Al considered as a reference material. A ‘master curve’ representing this relation for Al was obtained through a compilation of a large array of experimental data on creep and constant strain rate deformation from our measurements and from literature. In a simple way the master curve can be modified to include the effect of Mg additions. The intention of the derived equations is to provide a practical tool for predicting steady state deformation behaviour of Al-Mg alloys for an arbitrary Mg concentration in the range of temperatures and strain rates of technical interest.
