Abstract :
A recent finite difference model for the growth of a cellular and dendritic array in binary alloys has been expanded to multicomponent alloys. As in the earlier model, the primary spacing selection mechanism for multicomponent alloys is modelled so that no a priori assumptions need to be made about a spacing selection condition. The numerical results are compared with those calculated for the binary alloy and then with experimental spacing measurements in a multicomponent alloy. The comparison shows that the primary spacing prediction fits very well with the measured spacings.
