Abstract :
Titanium alloys of Ti–Al–Mo–O system were manufactured by blended elemental powder method using Ti, Al, Mo and TiO2 powders as starting materials. It was found that cold compaction pressure of 800 MPa followed by sintering at 1150–1200°C, for 4 h provided sufficient densification of titanium materials. Complete dissolution of alloying elements in the titanium matrix resulted in a good combination of mechanical properties. Examples of alloys chosen for possible application were Ti–(1.5–2.0)%Mo–0.7%TiO2 and Ti–2%Al–2%Mo. The latter has already been tried for manufacturing parts in automotive industry.
