Abstract :
The mechanical properties of the pseudobinary (Fe1−xVx)3Al alloys have been investigated as a function of the V composition with attention to an increase in the D03–B2 transformation temperature, Tc. A slight substitution of V to Fe3Al induces a sharp decrease in the room-temperature yield stress. As the temperature is raised above 600 K, the yield stress increases and exhibits a peak at around 1000 and 1180 K for x=0.10 and 0.20, respectively. Thus, the yield stress peak can shift to higher temperatures with increasing Tc by the V substitution. It is concluded that the peak temperature varies with the increase in Tc, which supports a direct correlation between the loss of D03 order and the anomalous increase in yield stress.
