Abstract :
The purpose of the study is to investigate the Perceived uncertainty and environmental scanning behavior of managers. An analytical survey method is applied in the study. Data collected by researcher-made questionnaire. The population (n=60) consisted of managers in second industrial area companies in Ahvaz, Iran, and managers of all 60 companies were selected to be included in this study. Unlikely, 48 out of 60 companies answered the questionnaire. The findings indicate that customers (M=4.38) and economical (M=4.3) sectors are considered the most significant and uncertain ones. Also the economical (M=3.96) and customers (M=3.54) sectors poses a great amount of variability rate. They stated that economical (M=3.58) and political (M=3.68) sectors are the most complex ones. The managers scan economic environment (M=7.4) more than others; and the greatest strategic uncertainty (M=33.239) and environmental uncertainty (M=7.73) are perceived in economic sector. The findings also proved that there is a significant relationship between perceived strategic uncertainty (PSU) and perceived environmental uncertainty (PEU) in environmental sectors and the amount of scanning done there. The results indicate that there is a significant relationship between the perceived environmental uncertainty (p-Value = 0.003) with a frequency of rote the environmental scan .This study showed that, customers was the most important sector for managers. Variability and Complexity rate in economical sector was higher than others, respectively. Finally, PSU and PEU affect managers’ scanning behavior. Therefore, managers the more uncertainty is perceived, the more scanning they do in the environment to remove the resulting uncertainty.
