Aggregate planning is a functional activity that makes overall collective plans for production, materials planning, and capacity planning in advance for 1 to 18 months. Aggregate planning also helps to speculate the finalization of a new product planning for the sell. It gives an idea to top management as to what quantity of materials and other resources are to be required and when it requires. So that the total cost, Lead time to arrange materials, deliveries for operations of the manufacturing unit is kept to the minimum over that period. It also helps to analyze the sales plan vs. production plan, which could lead an idea for requirement of time to complete the sales order (or complete production), so production may continue in overtime or / and outsource/ subcontracting some quantity (if required). Aggregate plan do better to keep minimum inventory level. In another terms AP is an overall schedule planning of operation of organization to meet sale demand. And maximize profit.
