Preparation of REFeCo alloy target materials for magneto-optical recording media

In this paper an investigation has been carried out on the preparation process of the rare earth—transition metal (RE—TM) alloy target materials used to fabricate the magneto-optical disks. The four kinds of DyFeCo, NdDyFeCo, GdTbFeCo and TbFeCo alloy target materials were prepared by the powder metallurgy method. The oxygen content and microstructure of the prepared RE—TM cast alloys and sintered targets were preliminarily analyzed. The materials features and requirements of the RE—TM alloy sputtering targets were also discussed.
