Abstract
The primary creep behavior at room temperature of typical hcp, bcc and fcc metals and alloys in the annealed state are surveyed. Cubic alloys show negligible creep under all stress ranges, while cubic metals demonstrate very low creep. In contrast, hcp metals and alloys demonstrate significant primary creep. In particular, Ti–6Al–4V alloy and CP-Ti metal show considerable creep and accumulated large creep strain of more than 1% in 90 s and 1600 s, respectively, under 0.9 of 0.2% proof strength. As the creep strain rate decreases with time, this creep is regarded as primary creep.
