Abstract
The classical concepts of strictly one-dimensional polarons and bipolarons are insufficient to explain the actual electronic properties of disordered conducting polymers even when a small interchain transfer integral t⊥ is also considered. In fact the interaction between the carriers and the doping counter-ions fosters the creation of interchain polarons and bipolarons which explain most of the spin and charge properties of the disordered conducting polymers.
