The aromatic - quinonoid transition in conducting polymers

Various aspects of the aromatic-quinonoid transition (AQT) are reviewed. For an aromatic ground state polymer various quinonoid states are distinguished. Raman spectroscopy can be used to extract specific information concerning the reaction coordinate connecting the ground (aromatic or quinonoid) state with the charged or excited (quinonoid or aromatic) state.
