Abstract :
The exciton spectra have been investigated on thin films of β-carotene and related polyenes, having all-trans conformation. By using electro-modulation technique, it has been found that there is a one-photon forbidden n1Ag exciton in β-carotene film at about 4.0 eV above the lowest allowed 11Bu exciton at 2.25 eV at 77K.
