Electroluminescent devices based on modified polystyrene I. Pendant stilbenyl groups as light emitters

A new photo and electroluminescent polymer was prepared in which conjugation was confined to pendant chromophoric groups linked to every phenyl group of a polystyrene chain, namely poly(stilbenyl-p-methoxy styrene). The polymer is soluble, with good film forming properties and emits a blue light when used as the active layer of a LED, with a spectral maximum peaking at 450 nm.
