  • Abstract
The optical properties of a new soluble PPP-type polymer, poly(benzoyl-1,4-phenylene) (PBP), were studied. PBP films show bright blue photoluminescence (PL) with a maximum emission at 433 nm. The PL quantum yield of PBP in dilute chloroform solution is approximately 15%. Electroluminescence (EL) was investigated using PBP as the active layer in single and multilayer LEDs. The EL of all fabricated devices lies in the blue region with a maximum brightness of about 100 Cd/m2. These results show that PBP might be a promising material for optoelectronic device applications.
