Abstract :
We have studied Coherent Anti-Stokes Raman Spectra (CARS) of trans-β-carotene in chloroform solution at various concentrations. We have determined the nonresonant molecular third-order nonlinear optical response of this conjugated molecule in chloroform to be <γ>(−591nm,650nm, −721.4nm,650nm) = (13±4)×10−33esu.
