Abstract
A method is presented for fabricating microplanar polymer light-emitting diodes (LEDs) with submicron interelectrode spacing in a surface cell configuration. A shadow evaporation technique is used to obtain submicron gaps between gold and aluminum electrodes. Microplanar light-emitting diodes have been made with soluble poly[2-methoxy, 5-(2′ethyl-hexyloxy)-pphenylenevinylene], MEH-PPV, which emit light at room temperature and which turn on at approximately 35 V.
