Abstract :
Attempts have been made to mirror the ca. 14 kBar pressure-induced phase transition in LaNi0.5Fe0.5O3 by using “chemical” pressure produced by partial or complete substitution of electronically inert lanthanum for a smaller ionic radius isoelectronic ion (yttrium). Although this attempt has proved unsuccessful, a number of phase transitions are seen in the series Lax Y1−xNi0.5Fe0.5O3, revealed by changes of magnetic, electrical and infrared spectroscopic properties.
