Synthesis of new donor-acceptor systems through the association of a tetrathiafulvalene core and fullerene units

The preparation of three molecular assemblies in which a tetrathiafulvalene (TTF) derivative is covalently linked to one, two or four C60 molecules is reported. The cyclic voltammograms (CVs) of the supramolecules are the virtual superposition of those of their donor and acceptor parts. In addition, UV-Vis spectra are highly similar to those of the TTF precursors, indicating that no spontaneous electronic transfer occurs between the fullerene spheres and the TTF core.
