Abstract :
The two-dimensional structure was investigated for the sodium-graphite intercalation compound obtained from the ambient pressure decomposition of superdense sodium C2Na. The sodium sublattice possesses hexagonal symmetry (a = 3.60 إ). This sublattice is rotated by 30 ° relative to the graphite layer. The mechanism of formation and the chemical nature of this compound are described in a model that considers metal-metal interactions within an intercalate bilayer. The structural data for various graphite intercalation compounds are compared with those for the sodium bilayer intercalate package, first-stage structure.
