Abstract
The conductive emeraldine form of polyaniline was chemically synthesized in the interlayer space of tin (IV) -2-carboxyethyl phosphonate (SnP-C) by exposure of the Fe(III)-containing host to an aqueous acid solution of aniline. The transition metal ion was previously intercalated in SnP-C by ionic exchange. The composite shows the characteristic electroactive properties of polyaniline, although the amount of the polymer does not exceed 3.5 wt.%. It was also characterized by FT-IR and X-ray diffraction, confirming the formation of the polymer in the interlayer space of the host material.
