Abstract
Sodium intercalation into different carbon hosts in its MeTHF solutions containing phenanthrene was investigated and compared with intercalation in its tetrahydrafuran (THF) solution as we previously reported. The structures of the formed intercalation compounds of sodium strongly depend on the nature of the carbon hosts. Pyrolytic carbons formed ternary intercalation compounds of sodium and ether molecules with stage-1 structure either in THF or MeTHF, independent of their degree of graphitization. All cokes formed so-called random stage structure in MeTHF solution.
