Electrochemical synthesis of poly(3,4-ethylenedioxythiophene) from a dimer precursor

2,2′-Ethylenedioxybithiophene has been synthesized and used as substrate for electropolymerization. The electrochemical and spectroscopic characteristics of the resulting polymer are very close to those of the parent poly(3,4-ethylenedioxythiophene) although polymerization occurs at about 0.65 V less positive potential.
