Abstract :
We investigated the effect of breather states on static polarizability (a) and hyperpolarizability (γ) of finite polyenes (C24H26, C40H42) using molecular dynamics simulations. With all C-C bond and angle degrees of freedom included, we found significant enhancement in the presence of breathers. Using exact diagonalization technique we found that for specific values of materials parameters (electron-phonon coupling, etc.) quantum lattice fluctuations and disorder can also enhance optical nonlinearity.
