Investigation on parasexiphenyl deposits onto alignment layers useful in liquid crystal displays

Rod-like molecules of parasexiphenyl were vacuum deposited onto alignment layers. These layers were chemically different — polyimide or polytetrafluoroethylene copolymer — and showed different pretilt angles. Spectroscopic and structural characterizations were carried out to investigate the orientation of parasexiphenyl molecules with respect to the substrate plane.
