Abstract :
The thermal behavior of several α-alkylated quaterthiophenes is investigated. Polarizing microscopy and differential scanning calorimetry reveal that 5,5‴-dipropylquaterthiophene exhibits a nematic liquid crystalline phase while oligothiophenes bearing longer alkyl chains have more ordered high temperature phases.
