Abstract :
Measurements of the magnetic susceptibility in α-(BEDT-TTF)2KHg(SCN)4 in fields of up to 60 T show that the magnetic breakdown β frequency persists and is not attenuated on passing through the kink transition. A quantitative analysis of the oscillation amplitude over a wide range of field shows that the energy gap between the quasi-one- and two-dimensional parts of the Fermi surface is much smaller than previously estimated. We discuss the implications of this for the spin-density-wave nesting and the quantum Hall effect.
