Effects of quantum phonon fluctuations on Peierls transition in Holstein model

Effects of quantum phonon fluctuations on the Peierls dimerization are explored for the one-dimensional Holstein model. By employing a functional approach, we found that the Peierls transition can be suppressed by the quantum phonon fluctuations even for the spin-half systems.
