The syntheses of a soluble diacetylene and its polymer with push–pull azobenzene and pyrimidine ring attached

A new unsymmetrical polydiacetylene having a pyrimidine ring and an azobenzene chromophore directly bound to the two ends of a diacetylene moiety was synthesized with good yield. The diacetylene monomer could easily dissolve in common organic solvents, and be polymerized thermally or under light illumination. Micro and macroscopic third-order susceptibilities were estimated for the yielded polymer.
