Abstract
We discuss a quantum-mechanical picture for the magnetoresistance angular effects in quasi-one-dimensional conductors at general magnetic field orientations. In this model, we consider the incoherent limit where the in-plane scattering happens much often than the interlayer tunneling, and show that the single tunneling process between adjacent layers leads all angular effects except the peak effect caused by closed orbits. The Lebed resonance is interpreted as the resonant magnetotunneling between adjacent layers, and the Danner–Chaikin oscillation and the third angular effect are just the modulation of its tunneling amplitude. This result shows that these angular effects survive even in the system with incoherent interlayer coupling. The present quantum-mechanical model can be applied to the systems for which the semiclassical picture cannot be used. We discuss the quantum angular effects under ultra-high magnetic fields and in the magnetic breakdown systems.
