Reactivity in molecular crystals

Organic reactions in the solid state have been extensively studied by X-ray crystal structure analysis over the past decade. Many types of photoinduced, thermal, solid-—gas and solid—solid reactions have been examined and a wide variety of useful products have been found to be synthesized more easily and effectively in the solid state than in solution. Among these reactions, the crystalline-state reactions, which proceed with retention of the single crystal form, exhibit dynamic reaction processes in the crystalline lattice.
