Abstract :
The field of solidification modelling covers micro- and macrosegregation, microstructure and defect formation, and thermomechanical aspects which include the formation of hot tears. Simulations are becoming increasingly more sophisticated and accurate as a result of refined physical models, improved thermodynamic, thermophysical and mechanical data, development of powerful numerical techniques and the availability of affordable and powerful computers.
