Abstract :
The host response to a biomaterial includes assembly of an effective collagenous matrix that is critical for the long-term performance of a medical implant. Despite the development of methods that allow detailed examination of the non-cellular matrix components, particularly collagens, relatively little information is available on the extent of molecular variability in the collagen matrix that is associated with various alternative implant materials.
