Advances in poling and permanently induced phenomena in silica-based glasses

This paper reviews both recent progress in enhanced photosensitivity and in thermal poling. It is shown that, whereas recent research on photosensitivity focuses on specific issues, recent work on thermal poling is carried out with a view to a better understanding of the fundamental mechanisms of the process.
