Abstract :
Two peaks of the transmitted waves at 580 and 665 cm−1 were found to be perpendicularly polarized after propagating through α-quartz, which correspond to the ordinary and extraordinary waves, respectively. This is a new dichroic property of α-quartz in the infrared frequency region, namely the polarization state of the incident light is changed after propagation through α-quartz.
