Abstract :
In this report, we explore the synthesis and the characterization of some new pyrrole monomers bearing various active groups such as amine and alcohol activated esters. The functionalized monomers undergo facile electropolymerization to give electrode bound electroactive polymers. In the case where the pyrrole is bearing the amino group, the 3-(ω-aminopropyl) pyrrole, the amine must be protonated or protected in order to electropolymerize the monomer. The precursor polymers can be functionalized by various molecules via post polymerization chemistry. Biomolecules such as biotin were substituted onto precursor polymers and the biological recognition with avidin was determined by the change in redox properties of the backbone polymer.
