Abstract :
Assembling monolayer on gold surface is a critical process in fabricating molecular devices. We found that self-assembled monolayer (SAM) could be formed on the Au surface directly from tolanethioacetate without using base, and the surface coverage of the tolanethioacetate on the gold surface was very similar to that of the symmetric tolane disulfide. The adsorption rate of the dodecanethioacetate was compared to that of dodecanethiol by means of spectroscopic ellipsometer and electrochemical quartz crystal microbalance (EQCM). The adsorption rate of alkyl and aromatic thioacetates were slower than that of alkyl and aromatic thiols.
