Abstract :
The nanosized manganese titanate (pyrophanite) MnTiO3 was prepared by oxidation of Mn(OH)2 with TiO2 (P-25) powder in cetyltrimethylammonium bromide (CTAB) micelle solutions and the calcinations of the produced powders. The nanostructure of pyrophanite was characterized with X-ray powder diffraction (XRD), transmission electron microscopy (TEM), UV–Vis spectroscopy and fourier transform Raman (FT-Raman) spectroscopy. The new absorption peaks in FT-Raman spectra indicate the formation of Ti–O–Mn bond. TEM images showed that the nanoparticles were almost spherical or slight stretched and the sizes are in the range of 40–60 nm. The UV–Vis results showed that nanosized MnTiO3 caused significant absorption shift to the visible region (320–750 nm) with a λmax 620 nm, compared to pure TiO2 powder.
