Abstract
There is a superconducting equivalent for most types of conventional ac machine. This paper describes six topologies of machine, viz. hysteresis, pre-fluxed, written pole, cage, synchronous reluctance, composite and induced synchronous machines. The geometry of each of these machines is described and the material requirements are discussed. The advantages and disadvantages of these motors are also discussed.
