Abstract :
In aeroengine design, extensive use of titanium alloys is essential in order to obtain the highest level of mechanical characteristics with the lowest weight. This major role played by titanium in turbojet production requires a careful set of precautions for melting and testing to minimize the risk of heavy inclusion entrapment detrimental to part life duration. The complex microstructure of titanium alloys is taken under control through the modelling of the forging process and a precise prediction of the microstructure. The high reactivity of titanium is a great concern when used in turbojet engines which need stringent rules of design and careful choice of materials.
