Abstract :
Coherently aligned multi-atomic step arrays on GaAs(331) substrates generate periodic ensembles of conductive quantum wires which are exploited for novel device functionalities. Sub-micrometer wide constrictions parallel to the wires with independent side-gate control allow switching between spatially separated electron channels. The strongly modulated periodic potential in constrictions perpendicular to the array opens new opportunities for realisation of coupled quantum dot structures.
