Abstract :
Titanium fire found in advanced aircraft engines has aroused a wide interest in the world. Influences of the interface on the burning behavior of titanium are important. The results reveal that the burning product surface has cracks and is porous, which cannot retard oxygen diffusion into the matrix. The interface between the burning products and the matrices of C.P.Ti and Ti-6-4 also has cracks and is porous. However, the interface between the burning products and the matrix of the Ti40 alloy is tenacious, which is in the form of Cr2O3. This product can retard oxygen diffusion into the matrix and reduces the burning velocity. Thereby the burn resistant mechanism of suspending oxygen diffusion is proposed.
