Abstract :
The conductivities of polymers like poly(2vinylpyridine) (P-2VP) and its derivative are reported here. 2vinylpyridine (2VP) was polymerised thermally and P-2VP salt was prepared by acidification. The formation of the 2VP salt was confirmed by IR and NMR technique. Conductivities were determined from 30 to 110°C in solid state. It was observed that addition of Cl− ion increases the ionic conductivity of the polymer dramatically. The polymer P-2VP-HCl behaves as a good polyelectrolyte. Molecular mass of P-2VP was calculated and found as 4.8×105.
