Abstract
The anomalous mechanical properties of some L12 compounds are well documented and have led to substantial interest into the dynamics of their screw superdislocations. Results from existing simulations are reviewed in this paper. Particularly, the similarities between dislocation dynamics simulations and highly simplified discrete models are discussed. These similarities suggest that scaling laws derived from discrete models can provide a powerful way to interpret dislocation motion observed in more realistic simulations. A method of estimating the average superkink spawning probability within a simple line tension approximation is presented. Application of this method demonstrates that results from discrete models and continuum simulations are consistent.
