Abstract :
A new macromolecular architecture approach to the synthesis of new polymeric light-emitting materials is presented. Using this novel approach the manipulation of the chain length in the side group of the poly(p-phenylene vinylene) (PPV) based materials as well as the size of the ring located within the side group, enabled us to enhance photoluminescence (PL) properties of PPV related compounds. It has been found that the longer the chain length of side group and the smaller the ring size could result in much better PL. The effect of oxygen on the PL properties of these new materials was also examined. It was found that the PL intensity could be decreased more than five times than initial values over 10 min in the air compared with the same measurements in vacuum for the same period of time.
