Abstract
Effects of tungsten additions on the mechanical properties of Fe3Al-based alloys at both ambient and high temperatures have been studied. Results show that tungsten additions increase the yield strength and creep resistance at high temperatures significantly, but decrease the ductility at room temperature slightly. The solubility of tungsten in the Fe-28Al alloy is approx. 1.0 at.%. When the amount of the tungsten addition is more than 1.0 at.%, second phase particles of M6C-type carbide form from the matrix, which plays an important role in improving creep resistance of Fe3Al-based alloys.
