Abstract
The precipitation of β′-Ni2AlTi has been investigated in NiAl–Ti alloys as a function of Ti concentration and aging treatment. The precipitation mechanism for β′ is nucleation and growth in these alloys for the given heat treatments. The solubility of Ti has been measured using quantitative energy-dispersive X-ray spectroscopy. These measurements agree with the results and trends of other researchers, and show the solubility of Ti decreases with temperature to 2.7 at.% at 1000 K. Comparisons to other studies of β′ precipitation in the Ni–Al–Ti system are made and conditions under which possible mechanisms can occur are discussed.
