Abstract :
The local anion distortion parameter u for Co2+-doped inverse spinel LiGa5O8 is studied by fitting the calculated EPR g factors g|| and g⊥ to the observed values for Co2+ ion in trigonal octahedral Li+ site of LiGa5O8. The result (u≈0.383±0.002) is comparable with those reported in similar pure inverse spinels LiAl5O8 and LiFe5O8. So, we suggest that the anion distortion parameter u in pure LiGa5O8 may be close to the above local parameter obtained from trigonal Co2+ cluster in this crystal.
