Abstract :
Cellular metallic structures of geometrically defined open porosity can be produced by casting around filler materials that are later removed (infiltration preparation mechanism). The functional properties of open porous foams are highly influenced by the degree of pore opening (DPO), which is the ratio of the diameter of the openings between two pores to the pore size. The relation between DPO and various material constants and process variables has been derived and tested.
